Unlike many sports that operate on a school year system, US Youth Soccer uses a player's birth year to determine the player's soccer age (U8, U10, etc). A birth year is January 1 to December 31 of the year in which they were born.  This change was made to align with the system used by most countries internationally.  

Use the chart below to determine the appropriate age group for your player. The age group is at the intersection of the column containing the season and the row containing the year the player was born. The 2022-2023 season, would be the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 registrations.

For example, if the player was born on any day in 2015, and it is the Fall 2022 season or the Spring 2023 season, then the age group is U8. When you register your player in our system, you would select the U8 age group (Please note that our system and USYS soccer rules groups players together in two year pairings, so a U5 player will register for U6, a U7 player for U8, a U9 player for U10 and so on).  The SFSA Crickets program includes U5 and U6 even though U5 is not on the birth year chart below.
